Programme
Philosophy
The overall philosophy of the training programme in the Department of Architecture
in Akure is to produce a competent, skilled and versatile individuals capable
of understanding society's need for shelter and translating this need into
climatologically and appropriately built environment; as well as ensuring
the capability of the individual to face a broad spectrum of challenges of
the environment for human and other activities.
The graduate
architects are trained to do the following:
- Exploit
the rich cultural and traditional architectural resources in the country
in general, and within the immediate environment in particular.
- To appreciate
the art and science of planning, design, erection, commissioning, maintenance,
management and coordination of allied professional inputs in the development
of the environment.
- To appreciate
the changing needs of architectural education, arising from changing social,
economic, psychological and technological environment.
U.M.E
Subjects or Entry Require Subject:
English Language, Mathematics, Physics and anyone of Chemistry, Geography
or Technical Drawing.
All undergraduate courses are normally of five-year duration including one-year
of general science in the School of Sciences. Courses lead to the award of
the Bachelor of Technology (B.Tech.) in each of the options offered in the
School except the Bachelor of Architecture (B.Arch.) offered in the Department
of Architecture. The professional degree in Architecture is not classified
but may be offered with distinction in Design Thesis.
Duration of Programme:
The programme of study include a 5-Session B. Tech. (Architecture) and a further
one and a half (11/2) session M.Tech. (Architecture) period of study on the
campus. This however include a Semester Industrial Training period and an
annually planned educational excursion/visits to important places of relevant
architectural and environmental values during the B. Tech. programme.

Admission
Requirements
The Joint Admission and Matriculation Examination (JME) requirements
for B.Tech. (Architecture) is five(5) '0' Level credit including English
Language, Mathematics and Physics; and any two credits from Technical Drawing,
Chemistry, Geography, Fine Arts, Economics and at least a Pass in Chemistry.
Holders
of the National Diploma (HND) in Architecture or related disciplines with
Upper Credit level pass, from NBTE accredited institution may also be considered
for admission for Direct Entry provided they meet the minimum '0' level
requirements
Requirements
for Graduation
A student
to qualify for an award of the degree shall be required to fulfill the general
degree requirements of the University and pursue the course presented by
the examiners in the course units shown in the curriculum. To pass 200,
300 and 400 levels, a student must pass the Design Studio. Compulsory core
course deficiency may be carried into the next higher level, but this must
be cleared before he/ she can take the compulsory core course in the succeeding
year.
A candidate
for the degree must meet the minimum requirements of 200 units over the
five years period of study in the case of UME students and 157 units for
Direct Entry students. In addition he/she shall complete prescribed field
courses and a period of industrial attachment or practical training.
