SCHOOL OF SCIENCE (SOS) Department of Chemistry ACADEMIC PROGRAMMES DEGREE OPTION Currently, the departmental undergraduate academic programmes are organized under – B.Tech. (Industrial Chemistry) with emphasis on the following:-
(i) Dye and Textile
Chemistry PHILOSOPHY AND OBJECTIVES At the end of the course, the graduates would have understood the fundamental principles of the subject, acquired a broad – based knowledge of the practical and applied chemistry, to be able to: (i) Organize and supervise the product and quality control units in chemical and allied industries; (ii) Collect and carry out chemical analysis of samples and make recommendations from the data. (iii) Handle some aspects of design and maintenance of equipment as well as the
construction of simple laboratory apparatus; ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS FOR THE PROGRAMME A. ORDINARY LEVEL REQUIREMENTS Candidates must have five credits in ‘O’ Level or SSCE or NECO at not more than two sittings to include: English Language, Mathematics, Chemistry, Physics and Biology/Agricultural Science. B. UME SUBJECTS
The Joint Admission and
Matriculation Subjects are Chemistry, English Language, Direct entry candidates must fulfill the conditions in A (above) and have minimum of Upper Credit at the OND examination or equivalent to qualify for admission into 200 Level of the Programme. REQUIREMENT FOR GRADUATION The minimum number of units required for graduation and for the completion of the course is as follows: Level Units Direct-entry100 40 - 200 39 39 300 39 39 400 30 30 500 30 30 178 138 However, the Direct Entry students are expected to audit some 100-levels coursesline-height:150%">of the university’s interest such as MEE 102, MEE 102, GNS 101 and GNS 102.
