SCHOOL OF SCIENCE (SOS)

Department of Computer Science

Programme Philosophy

The programmes are designed to train students in the sciences, engineering and technology of computing systems.

The Objectives of the Programmes are:

  • To expose the students to the knowledge of the fundamentals of Computer Science and Industria] Mathematics.
  • To impart in the students the knowledge of computer engineering.
  • To train the students to acquire sound knowledge of both hardware, software and engineering that will make them useful in private and public sectors of the world economy.
  • To equip the students with the capacity for research in information technology.
  • To equip graduates with sufficient knowledge to enable them undertake postgraduate work in Microbiology and related disciplines in Pure and Applied Science.

The Department runs the following postgraduate programmes:
a. Postgraduate Diploma in Computer Science.
b. M.Tech. in Computer Science and Industrial Mathematics.
c. Ph.D in Computer Science and Industrial Mathematics.

Admission Requirements

5 '0' level Credits including Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry plus a pass in Biology or Agric. Science
In addition to 5 '0' level requirements; either:
  • OND Upper Credit level in Computer Science, OR
  • A' Level Passes at one sitting in two of the following subjects: Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry take effect from the next academic session.

The entry requirements into any of this postgraduate programmes are detailed in the Hand Book of the School of Postgraduate Studies. The areas of research in the department are the following:

a. Computer network
b. Database system
c. Knowledge based Expert system
d. Neuro-fuzzy expert system
e. Mathematical modelling and simulation
f. Measurement and evaluation.
g. Fluid dynamics.
h. Analytical and numerical computations
i. Optimization techniques.
