Programme
Philosophy
Urban and Regional Planning is the arts and science of ordering land use development
for the social, economic and political benefits of the population. It is concerned
with formulation, design, implementation and monitoring of development policy
through spatial planning at the local, regional and national levels. Urban
and Regional Planning is therefore a broad based discipline that apart from
its main core courses, takes a lot of input from other fields, especially,
the Social Sciences.
The Objectives
of the Programmes are:
- To give
the students a broad based education that ensures acquisition of professional
skills to analyze, evaluate and implement programmes of the built environment.
- To provide
linkage between theory and practice through the application of theories
and research to solving practical problems.
- To encourage
students special interest and capabilities in particular planning skills
and research.
U.M.E
Subjects or Entry Require Subject:
The U.M.E requirements are English Language, Mathematics and any
two subjects from Physics, Chemistry, Economical and Geography.
Admission
Requirements
Admission into the department is mainly through U.M.E. The entry requirement
should be 5 credits at SSC including English Language, Mathematics, Geography
and two subjects from Chemistry, Biology, Economics, Technical Drawing and
at least a pass in Physics.
Candidates with the following may be admitted into Part II of the programme.
Holders of 5 SSC requirements plus:
i. A level passes at one sitting in Mathematics and any one of the following
: Geography, Economics, Physics and Chemistry.
ii. National Diploma (ND) at Upper Credit in Town Planning and related subject.
iii. Higher National Diploma (HND) in Town Planning and related subjects.
