Library Discipline
- Silence must be observed in and around the library.
- Brief cases, bags, nylon bags, boxes, umbrellas, sticks, cameras, gum, blade, etc. must be deposited at the Porters’ Lodge at owner’s risk.
- No reader may enter any part of the library marked – STAFF ONLY unless by permission.
- Eating, drinking, smoking, chewing, licking, or use of naked light including candles is strictly prohibited in the Library.
- No reader is allowed to use or operate mobile phone in the Library.
- All readers must show all books, papers and bags that they are carrying to the official at the Library exit.
- Long overdue shall attract the withholding of the students’ examination results at the end of each semester and the affected students shall not be allowed to register for classes until the books are returned and the fines paid. In the case of staff, overdue fines shall be deducted from the staff salary at the end of the month.
- All transferring or graduating students and out-going staff shall be required to obtain clearance from the Library before they are finally cleared by the University
- Loss of borrowed books shall be paid for with administrative charge of 15% before a student is registered or given the result of the semester examination. For staff, the cost of replacement of such books shall be deducted from the staff salary at source unless the staff volunteers to pay up immediately.
- Any act of removing Library books and other materials without authorization, or failing to return a book after due notice, or willfully damaging Library property shall attract suspension for at least a session from using the Library. A second offender shall be recommended to Senate for suspension for a session from the University.
- Any student found defacing or mutilating library books shall be suspended from using the library facilities for two semesters and he/she must pay for the cost of replacing the book(s) plus a service charge of 15%.
- Any student found hiding a library book shall be sanctioned.
- Any student found to have stolen any library book or any other material shall be guilty of gross misconduct and shall be recommended to the Senate to be suspended for two sessions from the University
- The University Librarian is empowered to suspend or withdraw all library privileges from users who contravene these rules and regulations, and may report such offence to the appropriate authority.
