Establishment
The Federal University of Technology, Akure (FUTA) was established, following the pronouncement of the Federal Government of Nigeria, in 1981 to give prominence to training in technology and applied sciences and also to assist in ensuring rapid technological and industrial development in Nigeria. The University formally took off in 1982 and has grown tremendously since its establishment to become the best University of Technology in Nigeria by 2004. Currently, there are six (6) Schools with a total of twenty-nine (29) academic Departments with two additional Schools being proposed to take off soon.
FUTA is located in Akure, the capital town of Ondo State of Nigeria. Ondo State lies between latitude 5045” and 8015” North and longitude 4030” and 60” East. It is an agrarian State and is fast becoming and industrial giant with rich forest reserves, bitumen, oil and other valuable natural resources.
