Agricultural engineering as a growing member of
the family of engineering, is the application of any and
all branches of engineering to the extent that they may
be used in agriculture, in rural living, processing of farm
products and such allied activities that improve the total
welfare of the people, and the preservation of the
environment to the well-being of mankind.
The Department train students to possess the necessary
skills that are needed in mechanized agriculture rural
living processing of farm products and allied activities
that enhance the preservation and conservation of natural
and environmental ecosystem.
The objectives of the programme are to;
a) Provide a thorough foundation in the basic physical
sciences applied agricultural sciences and engineering
fundamentals.
b) Teach the students the basic scientific principles in
solving technological problems of agriculture and food
production by providing them instructions in analysis,
development, design and practical work in the various
branches of agricultural engineering.
c) Exposing them to a lot of laboratory and field exercises
that will make them tackle challenges in the field.
d) Train the students to acquire the capability for
meaningful result oriented research in agricultural engineering.
It is believed that the content and quality of the
programme will satisfy the requirement of the council
for the regulation of Engineering in Nigeria and the future
employers of these students and provide the graduates
with greater potentials for technological self reliance
and self employment. Also, the graduates will have
developed a desire to learn and a curiosity for the unknown
in all fields of agricultural engineering and engineering
in general and will leave the University with
the spirit to grow professionally and resist obsolescence.
