The Department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering
was established in September 1988 as one of
the components of the School of Engineering and Engineering
Technology. The Department offers a number
of program of which the Bachelor of Engineering
(B.Eng.) degree in Electrical and Electronics Engineering
is its flagship.
Electrical and Electronics Engineering as disciplines
have become cornerstones in modern economics
since their products have significantly enhanced the
capacity and comfort of human beings especially since
the last half of the twentieth century. The area is characterized
by rapidly evolving technology that throws
up new trends every two years posing very serious
challenges to program designers. Consequently the
study program consists of a core component supplemented
by options in the final year. Three options are
taught presently and are the Communications/Electronics,
Power and Machines, and Computer and Control.
The objectives of this programme are:
- to develop a fundamental and general understanding
of electrical and electronics engineering;
- to provide students, researchers and other engineering
scientists with the opportunity to understand the
features, structures and related characteristics of modern
electrical and electronics components, devices and
systems; and
- to produce self-reliant graduate engineers capable
of adapting to the trends of a rapidly evolving area that
is crucial for robust and sustainable economic development.
