TITANS CLASH IN FUTA

Debaters from all over Nigerian Universities gathered in the Federal University of Technology, Akure for the third edition of the FUTA Open Debate Competition. The weeklong National Competition that took on a new name, FUTA Invitational had participants from twelve Universities including University of Ilorin, Covenant University, Obafemi Awolowo University and Ladoke Akintola University of Technology. Others include Michael Okpara University, University of Port Harcourt, Nnamdi Azikwe University, University of Medical Sciences, University of Calabar, University of Lagos and Elizade University.
The tournament kicked off on May 27 with the arrival of participants and was brought to an end by the final debate and dinner at the University Multipurpose Hall on May 31. In a keenly contested final which saw University of Ilorin, Federal University of Technology, Akure and Covenant University representatives slug it out, UNILORIN claimed the coveted trophy.
With sixty-four speakers, over twenty Judges and several observers, the tournament was a remarkable one for the participants. Faithfulness Okom, a member of the Core Adjudicator Panel shared through a Facebook post: “It has been a thrilling week . Proud to have worked on the Central Adjudication Panel with some of the brightest minds in the circuit.” He further appreciated the President of the FUTA Debate Club, Adewale Adeife and the organizing committee “for running an excellent tournament”.
While University of Ilorin claimed the trophy, Adewale Adeife of FUTA was declared one of the best Speakers of the tournament.
