206 BAG FIRST CLASS AS FUTA HOLDS 29TH AND 30TH CONVOCATION CEREMONIES


206 students will bag the first class honours degree at the Federal University of Technology Akure combined 29th and 30th Convocation Ceremonies for the 2016/2017 and 2017/2018 academic sessions holding between Friday November 23rd and 30th 2018. Briefing journalists on Friday, 23rd November, 2018, on behalf of the Vice Chancellor Professor Joseph Fuwape, the Chairman of the Ceremonials Committee and Deputy Vice Chancellor, Development, Professor Phillip Oguntunde said no fewer than 6,000 students will be graduating, with Mr. Adebodun Tope Samuel of the Department of Applied Geophysics graduating as the best student with the highest Cumulative Grade Point Average of (CGPA) of 4.91 in the 2016/2017 academic session while Olanrewaju Funke of the Department of Food Science and Technology is the best graduating student in the 2017/2018 Academic Session with Cumulative GPA of 4.91
Giving a breakdown of the class of degrees, he said 206 finished in the First Class division, 1,933 with Second Class Upper, 1,875 Second Class Lower, 725 Third Class and 61 in the Pass division. According to him 138 would be awarded Doctor of Philosophy (PhD), 996 with Masters Degrees, 570 with Postgraduate Diplomas, while Masters in Space Science and Technology programmes will have 13 graduands.
Professor Oguntunde added that three eminent Nigerians will be conferred with FUTA’s prestigious honorary degrees in recognition of their contributions to the development of the nation in their different areas of endeavor. They are Engr Akinwumi Odumakinde, the President, Impact Leadership Academy (a capacity building network for the youth) and Managing Director, DeltaAfrik; Dr Lawrence Olusegun Aina, a former President of the Chartered Institute of Bankers of Nigeria (CIBN) and current Chairman of the University’s Advancement Board and Oba Dr Olufemi Olutoye, JP, OFR, Alani of Ido- Ani, the traditional ruler of Ido Ani Kingdom and a retired Major General of the Nigerian Army.
He said a number of projects which include the new undergraduate female hostel, undergraduate male hostel, 25km Campus Wide Fibre Optics Cable equipment, Students Archival Project (e- Senate Project) and Energy Kiosk would be commissioned in the course of the ceremonies. The week long ceremony which begins on Friday 23rd November, 2018 will climax with the formal  Award of Certificates, Diplomas and First Degrees on  Thursday 29th and Award of Postgraduate Diplomas, Master’s Degrees, Doctorate Degrees and Conferment of Honorary Degrees on Friday 30th November at the University Main Auditorium.
