FUWAPE URGES UNIONS TO SUSTAIN PEACE IN THE UNIVERSITY SYSTEM

Members of Senior Staff Association of Nigeria Universities (SSANU) and similar bodies  have been advised  on the need to ensure and sustain peaceful co-existence in the University system.  The Vice Chancellor, Federal University of Technology, Akure, Professor Joseph Fuwape made this call while addressing a gathering of Executives of the Association during their 62nd meeting of the Southwestern Zone held at the Multipurpose hall of the University. Declaring the meeting open, the Vice Chancellor, Professor Joseph Fuwape advised the Western zone of the association to devise  strategies on how to sustain peaceful coexistence in the University operations.  He described confrontation in making demands as the bane of the Nigerian University system.  Professor Fuwape said the best way is to ensure dialogue and rapprochement in resolving contending issues within the system.

The Vice Chancellor assured members of SSANU (FUTA branch) that the career structure as it affects the non-teaching staff will be revisited and everyone will smile before the end of the year.  Fuwape reiterated his assurance to do everything within his power to resolve the issue of staff school adding that issue relating to earned allowance will be addressed .He advised members to make their request known to Management through dialogue. He said the University system is a collective property and he enjoined everyone to help see it grow.

In a remark earlier the SSANU Chairman (South-West Zone) Comrade Alfred Jimoh thanked the Vice Chancellor for approving the hosting right given to FUTA. He said the main purpose of the 62nd meeting was to see to the welfare of members and the institution at large.  Jimoh expressed gratitude to Professor Fuwape for his administrative ingenuity in dousing the tension in the University since his assumption of office.

Similarly the Chairman SSANU, FUTA branch, Comrade Dele Durojaiye thanked the Vice Chancellor for opening the doors of FUTA for the meeting.  He said the fatherly role of the Vice Chancellor in the University cannot be over emphasized. He said through the outstanding leadership quality of Professor Fuwape, there has been good rapport between the Unions and the University in the last two years. He further said, the combination of the Vice Chancellor and the Registrar is God ordained.
