FUTA Students, Others Get Scholarship

Nine students of the Federal University of Technology, Akure  alongside students from Federal Polytechnic, Ile-Oluji, St. Louis Girls’ Grammar School, Akure, Fiwasaye Girls’ Grammar School, Akure and Ondo Boys High School, Ondo have received scholarship awards from the Bankole Desmond-Eke Educational Foundation. Adinlewa Tuminiyi, Akintade Kehinde, Akerele Funmilola, Makinwa Moyinoluwa, Oloruntobi Dupe, Akinnagbe Opeyemi and Akinnusoye Adesola received the sum of two hundred thousand naira each while Akinmolayan Bright and Faloye Oludare, both final year students received One Hundred Thousand naira respectively to support their  academic pursuit.

Launching the Foundation as a major activity marking his 60th birthday, the founder and Chief Executive, Bankole Desmond-Eke reiterated his passion for the growth of education in Nigeria.  He noted the need to encourage young minds to invest in education for greater tomorrow.  He thanked God for the opportunity given him to be able to give back to the society and pledged continuous support for education particularly in the area of awards and scholarships, promising that the event would be an annual one. He also enjoined youths all over to pay attention to their studies and invest time and hard work which will eventually pay off.

At the event ,the former Vice-Chancellor, FUTA, Professor Adebiyi Daramola and  Commissioner for Education, Mr. Femi Agagu urged the students to see the gesture as magnanimous and appreciate it sincerely, noting that the donor is a man of tenacity and hard work. The Commissioner expressed delight to be part of the celebration of excellence and investment in Education which he described as a major project for the nation.

Speaking also, the Catholic Bishop of Ondo Dioceses, Rt. Rev. Dr. Jude Arogundade requested recipients to cherish the gift and appreciate the opportunity to be educated as it is being handed to them by their parents and the donor.  He congratulated the beneficiaries and urged them not to forget where they come from, as well as to remember to extend the same courtesy to others in the future.

Responding to the donations on behalf of the Institutions, the Rector, Federal Polytechnic, Ile-Oluji, Professor Adedayo Fasakin thanked the donor for his humanitarian service, noting that  government alone  cannot fund the system.  He also prayed to God to continue to bless him.Opeyemi Akinnagbe, one of the scholarship recipients from FUTA prayed for more blessings and further enrichment for the celebrant while appreciating his kind gesture towards the success of education in Nigeria.

Other dignitaries present include the Vice Chancellor, FUTA, Professor Joseph Fuwape represented by the Deputy Vice Chancellor, Development, FUTA, Professor  Philip Oguntunde, Dean, Student Affairs, FUTA, Professor Gbenga Onibi, Former Dean, Student Affairs, FUTA, Professor Kayode Alese, Director, Office of the Vice Chancellor, FUTA, Mr. Ife Oluwole and the wife of the donor and celebrant, Mrs. Desmond-Eke.
