Petroleum Technology Development Fund Begins Construction of Mining Engineering Building in FUTA


The Petroleum Technology Development Fund, (PTDF), has kick started the construction of a Building to be dedicated to the study and research of mining engineering at the Federal University of Technology, Akure,FUTA . At a brief ceremony on Wednesday 16th November 2022, the documentation and site were handed over to the contractor by the officials of PTDF and management of FUTA . The representative of PTDF, Mr. Olugbenga Wahab, in a brief remark, said the construction is in line with one of the core mandates of the FUND, to train and make available skilled, competent and qualified local manpower for the oil and gas sector in the country. He said the reputation of FUTA precedes it as a research intensive University with well-established competences in mining engineering. He promised to work hand in hand with site engineers to ensure prompt delivery of the project.
The Project Manager, Arc Jones Nuhu said it was heartwarming coming back to FUTA for a follow up on the project. He thanked the Management for its continuous cooperation at all times. He said it was not a mistake for Road Map to have won the contract and promised prompt delivery without compromising quality and standard. Similarly, the site Engineer from Road Map Construction Company, Engineer Jayegun Olusegun said he feels honored to work with FUTA. He promised that the company would deliver a thorough and quality job within the stipulated time. The Director Physical Planning, FUTA, Engineer Oladeji Boyinbode said the journey to the development which started in 2021 Would soon come to fruition in about 50 weeks ,the time allotted for the completion of the project. He said with a Memorandum of Understanding already signed leading to the donation of a site for the project, there would be no hiccups in the delivery of the project.
In her remark the Vice Chancellor, Professor Adenike Oladiji said for FUTA to achieve its set mandates it would continue collaborations and partnership with institutions and organizations of PTDF standing. While pleading with the PTDF to deliver the project to time , the Vice Chancellor said a non-existing project was better than a half completed project. Professor Oladiji thanked the PTDF for picking FUTA as a beneficiary of the project and also expressed optimism that it would be the beginning of a long-lasting relationship between the two institutions.
Dean, School of Engineering and Engineering Technology, (the end user of the project), Professor Peter Oke thanked the Management of FUTA and PTDF for the new Mining Engineering Department Building project. He assured that the School will continue to live up to expectations with its usual practice of coming up with cutting edge innovations to solve real life problems and contribute to national development.
The project is situated on Oba Adebiyi Adesida road around the West gate of the institution. The building according to the project Manager is expected to be completed and delivered in the next 50 weeks. The project will be a two floor building with offices, lecture halls and laboratories.
The Petroleum Technology Development Fund (PTDF) is a parastatal of the Ministry of Petroleum Resources established for the purpose of development, promotion and implementation of petroleum technology and manpower development through research and training of Nigerians as graduates, professionals, technicians and craftsmen in the fields of engineering, geology, geosciences, management, economics and relevant fields in the petroleum and solid minerals industry in Nigeria or abroad.
