The development of a Semi-automatic car washing machine was carried out to reduce time, energy, cost and increase the mechanical efficiency required in washing of car using locally sourced materials in comparison to hand wash. The approach used in its development involved the design, analysis, stability analysis, material selection, fabrication and assembly. The machine developed enables easy disassembling and assembling of its various components to facilitate easy relocation and installation of the machine and improvement of its efficiency in time spent using components such as machine frame, washing carriage, chain and sprocket, gear box, pulley, belt, electric motor, bearings, wash nozzles, water lines, pump and water tank. The washing parameters considered include volume of water used, volume of soap used and total time of wash. On evaluation of the various parameters the efficiency obtained were 28.89% for volume of water used, 83.92% for volume of soap used and 73.3% for time spent to wash. From the evaluated result, it was discovered that the volume of water and soap used was reduced, likewise, time spent to wash was also reduced and the cost of production is N273,000 as compared to an imported semi- car washing machine within the range of N5,000,000 to N35,000,000.
