FUTA ALUMNI GIVE INDIGENT STUDENTS SCHOLARSHIP

The Federal University of Technology, Akure (FUTA) Alumni Worldwide has given scholarships worth over N750, 000 to over 50 indigent students of the institution. At a ceremony to present the scholarship to the students the  Vice Chancellor, Professor Joseph Fuwape represented by the Deputy Vice Chancellor, Development, Professor Phillip  Oguntunde commended the efforts of the Alumni towards the alleviating the financial burdens of the students.  He said the gesture will go a long way to meet some of the educational needs of the students.  He encouraged the recipients to see the gift as a seed that will yield fruits as they also will be able to do so for others in future by God’s grace.

The Vice Chancellor urged them to be focused, diligent and be determined to succeed academically assuring the students of the commitment of the University Management to their welfare and progress.

The Dean, Student Affairs, Professor Gbenga Onibi, said that the Alumni in conjunction with the Student Affairs Department select the students after thorough screening to ensure that the beneficiaries are students in dire straits.  He said the funds have been disbursed appropriately without being diverted thus donors have been encouraged to give anytime the need arises. He admonished the beneficiaries to rise above their challenges and aspire to graduate in flying colours. 

On his part the President FUTA Alumni Worldwide, Mr. Olaitan Adesomoju encouraged the students not to define themselves by their challenges, as everybody has a story to tell. He said any living person will have challenges and that no condition is permanent.  He thanked in particular the Alumni   fundraising project Coordinator, Mr. Oseyande Idede for being faithful in collecting and disbursing the funds.

He expressed satisfaction that FUTA Alumni were always committed to the growth and progress of their Alma Mata and were willing to donate time and resources any time they are called upon.

The duo of the Student Union President and Alumni fund raising project coordinator Mr. Ibrahim Oluwanifemi and Mr. Oseyande Idede appreciated the Alumni for sustaining the initiative and for using their good offices to better the lives of the upcoming generation.

In a vote of thanks one of the beneficiaries, Mr. Onifade Ibrahim thanked the Alumni for their   kind gesture and promised that the students will work hard to win more grants and scholarship and make the University proud.
