Fuwape Lauds University Farm, SAAT

The Vice Chancellor, Professor Joseph Fuwape, has applauded the efforts of the School of Agriculture and Agricultural Technology, (SAAT) for boosting the University’s training and research capabilities through the Teaching and Research Farm. (TRF) and also generating income for the system. Fuwape gave the commendation during the kickoff of harvest on the Farm for 2018/2019 season. Professor Fuwape said through TRF, SAAT has distinguished itself as a research and training arm of the institution and in the process bringing return on investment for the school.  He lauded the efforts of the Dean, Professor Taiwo Amos and the entire staff of the school for ensuring that a partnership with Tuns Farm located in Osogbo, Osun State is sealed with FUTA in the area of supply of livestock to the company. He urged them to increase the harvest from the present 3½ hectares to 10 hectares by next harvesting season. Fuwape encouraged the staff to continue to work as a team and reminded them that farming is a profitable venture. He implored farmers to also learn from the mistake of past years so as to have better harvests.

Speaking earlier, Professor Amos thanked the V.C for obliging to help kick start the 2018/2019 harvest.  He said the weather this year has been clement and favorable.  He expressed optimism that the harvest next year will triple that of this year.  He said commercialization is ongoing but there is room for improvement.  Professor Amos  said apart from vegetable , corn , palm oil and other farm produce, FUTA Teaching and Research Farm   has perfected the cultivation and production of the F.1  Eva tomatoes, a   special  specie with longer shelf life developed by FUTA researchers
