Futa Campus Journalists Host Colleagues From South West


FUTA CAMPUS JOURNALISTS HOST COLLEAGUES FROM SOUTH WEST

The umbrella body of student journalists, National Union of Campus Journalists, NUCJ Nigeria, held her regional convention for Southwest at the Federal University of Technology, Akure, between  November 28 and December 1, 2019.The event which started on Thursday, with the arrival of delegates, had its major highlight the next day with a  panel session and lecture led by the keynote speaker, Mr Olusola Akinbinu, the Executive Director at Centre for Innovative and Inclusive Development. The young journalists also engaged in fact-checking training, facilitated by Ibrahim Alawode (Premium Times Centre for Investigative Journalism) and 'Niyi Oyedeji (Nigeria Tribune).

The campus journalists  from 12 institutions, including Lagos State University, Adekunle Ajasin University, Moshood Abiola University, Adeyemi College of Education, Federal School of Statistics,  Olabisi Onabanjo University, and Ladoke Akintola University of Technology; in bid to mix fun with the learning process, visited the FUTA Wild Life Sanctuary and the Akure Tech Hub.

The head of FUTA Campus Journalists, Temitope  Akinmoladun, lauded the FUTA Management and the Students' Union for the immense support towards the success of the convention. "It was a big challenge for us (FUTA) to take up the hosting request, being a science and technology school without direct or formal learning in mass communication or journalism, the success of the hosting  shows that FUTA can lead in every of human . It is important to know that FUTA has grown to become a force to reckon with in campus journalism, producing students gaining recognition in Nigeria and West Africa. The self reliance FUTA teaches, is instrumental to such skill development", Akinmoladun stated in his appraisal of the event.
