FUTA, Institute of Oceanography Sign MoU


The Federal University of Technology Akure, FUTA has signed a Memorandum of Understanding, (MoU) with the Nigerian Institute of Oceanography and Marine Research, NIOMR, Victoria Island, Lagos. The MoU was signed during a working visit of top officials of the Research Institute to FUTA on Tuesday August 29, 2023.  

Speaking on behalf of NIOMR Executive Director, Prof. Abiodun Sule, the Director, Marine Geology, Research and Geo physics, Dr. Adegbie Adesina, said it was an honor to be signing an MoU with the Best University of Technology in Nigeria. He said the proposal had been ongoing for a period of time and it was commendable that it finally saw the light of day.

The Executive Director expressed hope that the MoU would further strengthen the working relationship between the institutions for the collective good of both parties and our nation Nigeria.

In her response the Vice Chancellor, Professor Adenike Oladiji, said FUTA was striving to consolidate its position as a renowned research intensive institution and one of the ways to accomplish the feat was by driving collaborations and ensuring that they work. Professor Oladiji said it was not right only to teach and then pass the burden of know- how to professional bodies. She said the partnership a will help groom and prepare the students for the future. She reiterated that all hands would be on deck so it would not end as a paper collaboration.

Speaking earlier the Head of Department, Marine and Science Technology, Dr. Adetayo Folorunso, thanked the Management of FUTA for supporting the Department in the process that led to the partnership. He said FUTA on her own part would ensure that the collaboration works for the benefit of all the parties.
