A 64-bed hostel comprising 16 rooms for male students of the University built by the FUTA Cooperative Multipurpose Society has been commissioned by the Vice Chancellor, Professor Adenike Oladiji.

Speaking at the commissioning of the hostel which is located behind Awosika female undergraduate hostel, Obanla, on Monday, 31st July, 2023, the President of the Cooperative Society, Mr. Olufemi Olaosebikan thanked God for making the building project come to reality. He noted that the FUTA CMS had long desired to invest in the University beyond just servicing members’ needs, hence its decision to erect structures that will benefit students who are key players in the University. He disclosed that the hostel project was first discussed at the Coop’s Ordinary General Meeting in 2020 and birthed in November 2021 after its Annual General Meeting. He said through building the hostel, FUTA CMS has stepped up its contribution to the welfare of students and firmed up the delivery of its corporate social responsibility to the University.

He noted with pride that the coop did not borrow any money to execute the project, rather it partnered with construction based companies including FUTA BDC for supplies. He urged the students who would get accommodation in the hostel to make good use of the facilities and take advantage of the ongoing registration for a slot.

Professor Stephen Anjorin, a former President of the Cooperative, noted with satisfaction that the edifice is a befitting addition to the University’s landscape an epoch making one for the Cooperative society. He also commended the unity and cooperation of members, urging them to remain undivided as love for humanity was responsible for the successful erection of the building.

Applauding the Cooperative Society, the Vice Chancellor, Professor Adenike Oladiji said that the executive took leadership a notch higher by being responsive. She explained that students often protested against over being harassed by criminals and lack of decent living environment with poor facilities in their off-campus hostels. She expressed gratitude that private investors like FUTA CMS had come to the rescue of the University in providing hostel facilities.

The Vice Chancellor further thanked the Coop for helping the University achieve part of its mandate, adding that improving student experience on campus which includes building befitting accommodation is one of her core mandates. She called on other investors to join the list of partners currently working with the Institution to provide needed facilities and prayed for further commitment from the Coop society.

The hostel which is of modern design and contains state-of-the-art facilities has two wings of 8 rooms each, with 64 bed spaces four persons per room. It also has functional Internet provision, one large conference room, 16 toilets and bathrooms, modern kitchenette and laundry, standard borehole and regular power supply.
